Privacy Policy
Short version: Simple Bins collects only what it needs to make the app work. We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. Photos are used only to serve you features within the app.
1. Who we are
Simple Bins ("we," "us," or "our") is an iPhone application that helps individuals and households organize physical storage — bins, boxes, shelves, and drawers. Our support email is support@simplebins.com.
2. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. We use your email address to identify your account and, if you choose, to send transactional messages (e.g. workspace invitations).
Workspace data. We store the data you create inside the app: location names, bin names, item names, item descriptions, and item photos. This data is stored on our servers at api.simple-bins.com and is associated with your account.
Photos. If you attach photos to items or use AI Scan, photos are uploaded to our servers for processing and storage. AI Scan photos are sent to a third-party AI service for content recognition (see Section 5). We do not use your photos for any purpose other than to provide the features you requested.
Billing information. If you subscribe to Simple Bins Pro, payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your credit card number. We receive a subscription status signal from RevenueCat (see Section 5) to unlock Pro features.
Device and usage data. We may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system version, and app version for the purpose of diagnosing crashes and improving the app. We do not track your precise location.
3. How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and workspace
- To provide all in-app features (search, AI Scan, label printing, workspace sharing)
- To process and verify your subscription status
- To respond to support requests you send us
- To send workspace invitation emails on your behalf when you invite others
- To diagnose technical problems and improve app performance
We do not use your data to show you advertisements. We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.
4. Data sharing with workspace members
Simple Bins is designed for shared use. When you invite someone to your workspace, they can view and edit all locations, bins, and items in that workspace — including item photos. Only the workspace owner can manage membership and subscription. Think of a workspace like a shared folder: everyone you invite has access to its contents.
5. Third-party services
RevenueCat. We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions and entitlements. RevenueCat receives your app user ID and subscription transaction data from Apple. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Apple App Store. Purchases are processed by Apple under its terms of service and privacy policy. We receive only the subscription status (active, expired, etc.), not your payment details.
AI content recognition. When you use AI Scan, the photo you provide is sent to an AI service to identify the contents of your bin. Photos are used only for this recognition task and are not retained by the AI provider beyond the duration of the request. We will update this policy if we change AI providers.
6. Data retention
We retain your account data and workspace content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account from within the app, your account, workspace, and all associated data (including photos) are permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days. This action is irreversible.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data: HTTPS for all data in transit, hashed passwords (we never store passwords in plaintext), and access controls on our backend infrastructure. No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's privacy
Simple Bins is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at support@simplebins.com and we will delete it promptly.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@simplebins.com. You may also delete your account and all associated data directly from the Account screen in the app.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account or via an in-app notice.
